Market Update

Sydney Logistics & Supply Chain Hiring Market | October 2026

Spring has split the Sydney market. Hiring is still cautious overall, but Western Sydney's big DC projects are keeping demand steady for experienced operations leaders.

Talk to Marc

What we're seeing

  • Most of the demand is for operations leaders. Our recent briefs are for DC, site and national distribution managers, plus 3PL business development. New roles include an APAC Director of Integrated Supply Chain, a national GM Operations and Amazon Area Managers at Kemps Creek and Moorebank.
  • Western Sydney is still the hotspot. Woolworths' Eastern Creek DC is nearly finished, and ALDI's $1bn automated Aerotropolis DC will create 585 jobs. Employers want leaders who can run automated sites.
  • Pay is still rising. SEEK's Advertised Salary Index is up 4.2% year on year.
  • More applicants, fewer ads. NSW job ads have fallen for 12 months straight, and applications per ad are at a record high.
  • Retention is a real risk. 44% of senior transport and logistics managers are considering leaving the sector within five years.

Tips for hiring managers

  • More applicants doesn't mean more of the right people. For DC and site leadership, a targeted search still beats a job ad.
  • Move quickly. Aim for two interview stages and give feedback within 48 hours.
  • Sell the whole role, not just the salary. Technology, realistic hours and a clear automation plan help you stand out.

Tips for candidates

  • Lead with outcomes: cost-to-serve, safety, DIFOT and any automation or WMS projects.
  • Be upfront about your notice period and salary, and decide how you'd handle a counter-offer before you start.
